Explain both the statements of second law of thermodynamics.

milk chilling unit can remove heat from the milk at the rate of 41.87MJ/h. Heat
leaks into the milk from the surroundings at an average rate of 4.187 MJ/h.
Find the time required for cooling a batch of 500 kg of milk from 45°C to 5°C.
Take the cpof milk to be 4.187 kJ/kg K.

What is cogeneration? How is it important for energy conservation?
(b) Air
flows through an adiabatic compressor at 2 kg/s. The inlet conditions are 1 bar
and 310 K and the exit conditions are 7 bar and 560 K. Compute the net rate of
availability transfer and the irreversibility. Take T0= 298K.

Illustrate with examples, Kirchhoff’s laws as applied to an electric circuit.
(b) A
circuit consisting of 12Ω, 18 Ω and 36 Ω respectively, joined in parallel, is
connected in series with a fourth resistance. The whole is supplied at 60V and
it is found that the power dissipated in 12 Ω resistance is 36 W. Determine the
value of fourth resistance and the total power dissipated in the group.

is electric power supply system? Draw a single line diagram of a typical a.c.
power supply scheme.
