‘information retrieval system’. Describe the models of information retrieval.

Boolean Model:
This model is
based on Boolean algebra and uses logical operators (AND, OR, NOT) to combine
terms in a query.
Documents are
represented as sets of terms, and retrieval is based on matching these sets
with the user's query.
Vector Space
Model:
Documents and
queries are represented as vectors in a multi-dimensional space.
Similarity
between documents and queries is calculated using measures such as cosine
similarity.
This model
allows for partial matching and provides a ranking of documents based on
relevance.
Probabilistic
Model:
This model is
based on the principles of probability theory.
Documents are
ranked according to the probability that they are relevant to a given query.
It considers
the likelihood of a document being relevant and the likelihood of a term
occurring in relevant documents.
Fuzzy Set
Model:
Unlike the
Boolean model, the fuzzy set model allows for partial membership of terms in a
document.
It recognizes that not all terms are present in a document to the same degree of relevance.
Relevance
Feedback Model:
This model
incorporates user feedback to iteratively refine the search results.
Users can mark
documents as relevant or irrelevant, and the system adapts the query based on
this feedback to improve future retrieval.
Latent Semantic
Indexing (LSI) Model:
LSI is based on
the idea that words that are used in similar contexts tend to have similar
meanings.
It uses
singular value decomposition to identify the underlying structure and
relationships in the terms used in documents.
Neural Network
Models:
With the
advancements in machine learning, neural network models, such as deep learning
models, have been applied to information retrieval.
These models
use neural networks to learn complex patterns and relationships in text data
for improved relevance ranking.
These models
provide different approaches to information retrieval, each with its strengths
and weaknesses. The choice of a particular model often depends on the
characteristics of the data and the specific requirements of the information
retrieval task at hand.
