Q1. Define Computer
network. Discuss components of a computer network and important WAN
technologies.

They enable communication and data exchange between devices, allowing users to share resources, access information, and collaborate effectively.
Nodes: These
are the devices connected to the network. Examples include computers, servers,
printers, routers, switches, and other network devices.
Links: Links
refer to the communication channels that connect nodes in a network. These can
be wired (e.g., Ethernet cables, fiber-optic cables) or wireless (e.g., Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth, cellular networks).
Networking
Devices: These devices facilitate communication and data transfer within the
network. Examples include routers, switches, hubs, and access points. They help
manage the flow of data and ensure that it reaches its intended destination
efficiently.
Network
protocols: Protocols are rules and conventions that govern how data is
transmitted and received in a network. They define standards for communication,
addressing, error detection and correction, and data formatting. Examples
include TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol), HTTP
(Hypertext Transfer Protocol), and Ethernet.
Network
Services: These are software applications and services that run on the network
and provide specific functions, such as file sharing, email, web browsing, and
remote access.

discuss some important WAN (Wide Area Network) technologies:
Leased Lines:
Leased lines provide dedicated point-to-point connections between two
locations. They offer high bandwidth and reliable connectivity but can be
costly.
MPLS
(Multiprotocol Label Switching): MPLS is a protocol for efficient packet
forwarding in telecommunications networks. It allows for the creation of
virtual private networks (VPNs) over a service provider's network, providing
reliable and secure WAN connectivity.
Frame Relay:
Frame Relay is a packet-switching technology used to connect multiple locations
in a wide area network. It provides cost-effective connectivity but has largely
been replaced by newer technologies like MPLS.
ATM
(Asynchronous Transfer Mode): ATM is a high-speed networking technology that
supports the transmission of voice, video, and data over a single network. It
offers predictable performance and quality of service (QoS) but has been
largely supplanted by newer technologies like MPLS and Ethernet.
Internet VPN
(Virtual Private Network): VPNs use encryption and tunneling protocols to create
secure connections over the public Internet. They allow remote users to access
the corporate network securely and are commonly used for remote access and
site-to-site connectivity.
DSL (Digital
Subscriber Line): DSL is a broadband technology that uses existing telephone
lines to provide high-speed Internet access. It is widely used by small
businesses and residential users to connect to the Internet.
Satellite:
Satellite technology provides connectivity in remote areas where traditional
wired or wireless networks are unavailable or impractical. It offers wide
coverage but can be susceptible to latency and signal interference.
